Chris Corliss

Christopher E. Corliss

is the program coordinator for instructional services at the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE), provides leadership and professional development training, tools and resources in School Wellness Policy, Physical Education, Health Education, Fitness Assessment, Youth Sports and High School Athletics. He actively advocates for quality school policies, programs and practices. Under his guidance, OCDE has developed partnerships that benefit local schools and districts with local universities, public agencies, community youth and health organizations. Corliss’ primary responsibility is to support the 28 public school districts and 600 K-12 public schools serving 500,000 students throughout Orange County. This year over 1,500 school administrators, teachers, staff and parents will participate in over 50 HSPE-sponsored trainings, workshops, webinars, presentations and seminars on a variety of school and student health, fitness and physical education topics. Chris supports an Orange County Health and Physical Education Leadership Network and has presented at numerous, regional, California and national conferences.

 

Gloria Giraldo

Gloria Giraldo

is the director for Strategic Initiatives at Latino Health Access, an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life and health of uninsured and underserved people. She has worked at local, state and international levels on projects ranging from pediatric injury prevention to chronic disease management. She also has extensive experience training community health workers in rural and urban settings and developing culturally-competent and literacy-appropriate health education curricula.  Ms. Giraldo holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of Michigan; and has completed the coursework for her doctorate in public health degree at University of California, Los Angeles.

 

Donna Fleming

Donna S. Fleming

 has been a manager with Orange County Public Health for six years and serves as the Chief of Operations for Public Health. She holds a master’s degree in social work from San Diego State University and is a California Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She also earned a doctorate in public administration from the University of Southern California focusing on public-private partnerships and nonprofit management.  Dr. Fleming has worked in the health care field for over 20 years in the nonprofit and public sectors. In addition to working for the County of Orange, she served as the deputy director for AIDS Services Foundation and the executive director for Camp Fire USA Orange County Council.  In her current position, Dr. Fleming oversees the divisions of Disease Control and Epidemiology, Family Health, Public Health Nursing, Health Promotion, and the Public Health Laboratory. She is a volunteer with Orange County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and serves on Orange County United Way’s Community Impact Council as the Vice Chair of the Basic Needs Committee.

Liza Frias

is assistant director, Environmental Health for the Orange County Health Care Agency. Prior to joining OCHCA, she served as the Environmental Health Division Manager at the City of Pasadena for two years and as director of Food Safety at Albertsons for nine years. Ms. Frias is a member of the Food Safety Tech, a forum of industry professionals who work to promote better food safety and quality assurance, and the International Association for Food Protection. She has a bachelor’s degree in environmental and occupational health form California State University, Northridge.

 

Mary Ann Foo

Mary Anne Foo

is the executive director and founder of the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance, a nonprofit community-based organization that works to expand opportunities for Southern California's Asian and Pacific Islander communities through service, education, advocacy, organizing and research. Foo has been working for more than 20 years on immigrant and refugee community issues at the national, state and local levels through various community and county-wide organizations. Foo is a principal investigator on several community-based participatory research projects, including the National Center of Excellence to Eliminate Disparities in Health project focused on Pacific Islanders and Southeast Asians in the United States, a California Breast Cancer Research Project focused on patient navigation for Southeast Asians, and a Pacific Islander cancer project funded by the National Cancer Institute. Foo received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Davis and her master degree in public health from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Public Health.

 

Laura Gil-Trejo

Laura Gil-Trejo

is the Director for the Social Science Research Center at California State University, Fullerton, began her career at the Center began when she was hired as a Research Associate in 2004. She was promoted to Associate Director in 2007 and to Acting Director in 2008 where she maintained her position and grown the program in a very positive direction over the last three years. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine; two Master’s degrees-- one in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine; the other in Public Health from San Diego State University; and is presently working towards her PhD in Program Evaluation and Applied Research Methods at the School of Behavioral Organizational Sciences, Claremont Graduate University. Her teaching experience includes CSU Fullerton and Santiago Canyon College. Laura has several journal publications to her credit and has presented at both local and national conferences. Laura has written many professional technical reports including over two dozen reports for diverse programs including academic departments in most of CSUF's colleges and various research and service centers on campus. She has been consistently responsible for obtaining and managing grants and contracts that average $500,000 each year.

 

Nahla Kayali

Nahla Kayali 

 is the executive director and founder of ACCESS California Services formerly (Care “R” Us), a nonprofit, culturally sensitive community-based organization dedicated to empowering the underserved Arab American and American Muslim communities, to enhance their quality of life and increase their self-determination. The agency does this through direct services, referrals and/or enrollment in community and government assistance programs. In 2005, the agency changed its name to ACCESS California Services, and expanded its role as a non-sectarian agency . Kayali is a h2 community leader and the driving force behind the first Arab American and Muslim Summit held in Anaheim in the spring of 2004.Sponsored by Richard Chavez, Anaheim Mayor Pro-Tem, it brought Arab and Muslim leaders of this community together to discuss their role and visibility in city government. In 1976, she was one of the co-founders of the Palestinian American Women’s Association (PAWA) and has conducted many fundraising programs to aid Palestinian children for over 25 years.

 

Di Patterson

Di Patterson

is a noted Gerontologist, featured speaker at Aging events, popular workshop leader, prolific writer and author. She created Success in Aging TV® and is a pioneer in utilizing technology for promoting success in aging. She won the 2008 National Mature Media GOLD Award for TV show, Policy Makers Speak, and , 2009, 2010 and 2011 Awards in New Products and Technologies for her websites: SuccessInAging.tv and SeasonOfLife.net. Ms. Patterson is Co-founder and President of the Gerontologists’ networking non-profit: The Let’s Group®: Consulting and Consortium of Professional Gerontologists, a provider of continuing education for NAPG: the National Association for Professional Gerontologists.  Di believes that every company in America needs a Gerontologist on-staff or on-retainer! Among other volunteer and advisory positions, she is an Advisory Board Member of NAPG, a member of the Selection Panel for the Cal Optima Board of Orange County and an Ambassador for the Orange County Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Di blogs at AgeWise.tv, CaliforniaWomensConference.com and BullyPulpit.com, is a featured speaker at SpeakTank.com, and is a contributing expert as Gerontologist at SuccessInAging.tv, SeniorFamilyNetwork.com, and SmartWomensCafe.com. Gabriela Robles

Gabriela Robles

is vice president of Community Partnerships at St. Joseph Health, a 16-hospital health system serving California, West Texas and eastern New Mexico. She previously served seven years as executive director of St. Joseph Health Community Partnership Fund, created in 1986 to help improve the health of low-income individuals residing in local communities. Ms. Robles is responsible for defining strategic direction and executing grant-making programs. Areas of specialization include strategic planning, community investments, program evaluation and community building. She has two master’s degrees, one in Business Administration from NYU Stern School of Business and one in Urban and Regional Planning with an emphasis in Community-Based Planning for Health from UC Irvine.

 

Barry Ross

Barry Ross

 is vice president, Healthy Communities at St. Jude Medical Center, where he has served more than 25 years. He holds a master of Business Administration, Health/Health Care Administration/Management from Columbia University and a master of Public Health, Health/Health Care Administration/Management from Columbia University in the City of New York.  He serves on several advisory boards and is active in several local health-related collaboratives. Among his roles, he is the co-chair of the Health Improvement Partnership which leads Orange County’s Healthier Together, a community-wide initiative that aligns public and private resources within the public health system to improve health for all communities in Orange County.

 

Irene Salazar

Irene Salazar

 is the vice president of community education and outreach for Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties.  In this role she oversees the Women Infant and Children Program, and community education and outreach efforts. She holds a master’s degree in leadership and management from the University of La Verne, and is an alumni of Cal State Fullerton where she did her undergraduate studies in human services.  In addition to working for Planned Parenthood, she served as a board member for ABC Child Development, a head start program in Los Angeles and has also been the regional representative for California WIC Association. Salazar has worked in the nonprofit sector for over 17 years providing services to the multi-cultural communities and she continues to bridge resources to the underserved.

 

Frank Hernadez

Frank Hernandez

 is a health educator at the County of Orange Office on Aging, the lead system planner and monitor for the mandated older adult program in Orange County. Among his responsibilities, he supports the Healthier Living with Chronic Conditions Program (also referred to as the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program), a free evidence-based program developed by Stanford University that has been shown to improve health and well-being of adults with chronic conditions. Previously, he served 17 years as a health education associate at the Orange County Health Care Agency. Mr. Hernandez has a master’s degree in Public Health from Cal State Long Beach.

 

Lisa Wolter

Lisa Wolter

 is executive director of the Orange County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, one of the largest affiliates of the Komen organization leading the global movement to end breast cancer. Wolter’s career as a fundraiser and manager of nonprofit organizations spans nearly 30 years. As vice president of MZA Events Inc. she produced highly successfulAIDS Walksin Los Angeles and New York, as well as helping to establish the Revlon Run/Walk for Womenin New York City.  She worked with such corporate sponsors as CBS, HBO, NBC, Paine Weber and the U.S. Postal Service. In her positions as a nonprofit executive director and development director at agencies including Planned Parenthood, the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin and Project Angel Food in Los Angeles, Wolter has worked to cultivate relationships with government agencies, collaborative partners, major donors and the general public.
