Dr. Janna Kim is an assistant professor in the Department of Child and Adolescent Studies at Cal State Fullerton. Her teaching and research expertise lies in the area of adolescent development.
Professor Kim examines how family, peers, and the mass media influence adolescents’ attitudes toward sexual roles and relationships, and how those attitudes, in turn, could affect their sexual health. Her dissertation provided foundational knowledge of sexual socialization processes in Asian American families and was awarded the American Psychological Association’s Jeffrey S. Tanaka Memorial Dissertation Award for outstanding research benefitting ethnic minorities. Her ongoing research examines the sexual and gendered content of television and magazines and its impact on adolescents’ developing sexual identities and risk-taking behaviors. Professor Kim is actively involved in CSUF’s Safe Space program, which is committed to providing a supportive environment for LGBT students.
