Dr. Gail Love is an associate professor in the Communications Department and Director of the Public Relations Concentration. She brings a unique blend of over 25 years of professional experience in marketing communications combined with extensive teaching and research concentrated in communication theory and health communication to underserved populations.
Dr. Love’s recent research focuses on use of the entertainment-education (EE) communication strategy, wherein educational information is embedded in an entertainment format. Working with colleagues in Health Science, Dr. Love has written, produced and evaluated two soap-opera- themed video interventions: 1) a video to educate Thai women about cervical cancer screening under a $100,000 NCI grant; and 2) a video to educate Latinas about breastfeeding and preventing obesity in their children under a grant from CDC. Dr. Love also produced a video intervention under contract to the California Poison Control Center directed to Latino parents about use of the poison control telephone line.
Dr. Love has developed a graduate course in Health Communication Campaigns offered jointly in Communications and Health Science.
