Dr. Ruth Mielke is an assistant professor in the School of Nursing at Cal State Fullerton. She, is a certified nurse midwife/women’s health nurse practitioner with more than 20 years of clinical experience. For the past 5 years, she has conducted research on factors associated with gestational weight gain in Mexican American Women and on the use of Group prenatal care (CenteringPregnancy) to improve pregnancy outcomes in women with gestational or pregestational diabetes. She is particularly interested in women who gain excessively during pregnancy as this is key factor in the lifelong development of obesity.
She continues to be active in clinical practice and is fortunate to have access to data at her practice site which is a federally qualified health center in downtown Los Angeles.
Another recent research activity has been writing systematic reviews: one on Interconception Care for Women with Prior Gestational Diabetes and the other on the Risks/Benefits of Newborn Male Circumcision.
